Love letter to Fitzroy...
I am referring to Fitzroy. Melbourne,Brunswick Street and its near surrounds.
Who dosnt love Marios?
Who dosnt love Babka?
Who dosnt love Bimbos cheep pizza? (are they still cheep havent be there for a while?)
Who dosnt love the street people that yell loud in your ear whilst looking in your eyes "Have You GOT 2dollars?
even the back lane ways with there Indian getto smell have a certain charm.
But most of all I love the people (yes even the bums) there is no other place in Melbourne like it...No one really gives a second thought to what you wear or what you do..It always all about them ..and I love them for that...

One of the a fore mentioned lane ways. |
I used to have a retail shop selling jewellery. Imported, locally made Vintage and my own Designs in Brunswick Street for 16 years. Nearly 2 years ago I had to close my store in Brunswick St. You can only do something for so long for love alone. I need to pull the plug due to high rents and just the hard slog of competing with very cheaply made (sometimes scarily well made) Chinese Imports.
I look back on some of the photos of the stock we sold and I am proud of what I achieved, I was never afraid to offer the products I liked even if they were not considered mainstream. The old shop is now a Network Gaming Bar...( I do know what that is I think ? Even though I am probably not young and hip/nerdy enough to want to go there)..The move away from Brunswick St has been quite painful. I have only recently been able to go back without feeling quite sad. But its time to move on.
